In the United States, colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks second to lung cancer as a cause of cancer mortality and is the third most commonly occurring cancer in both men and women. It is recommended a screening colonoscopy is done at age 45 if you are average risk. If you have a family history of colon cancer, you are at increased risk and therefore should have a screening colonoscopy before age 45. If you have a history of cancer, Adenomatous colon polyps, Ulcerative colitis, or Crohn’s colitis, it’s recommended to have a screening colonoscopy earlier than 45.
